This African-inspired rattle, reminds me of an art history class I took at WSU in the 1970s, taught by Angela Davis. Our final exam was information on 50 slides of African Art. The Ashanti was just one tribe whose art we studied.

The piece of wood atop this sistrum reminded me of an Ashanti Goddess head. She sits with a piece of bone and some quartz crystals which draw the energy from three stones nestled in the base of the handle up through the sistrum. Several different people have noted to the strong energy in this rattle. Her handle is crafted from a rescued piece of maple branch worn by another branch, leaving a lovely cave for the stones at the base. One piece of strong bamboo runs the full length of the rattle to add strength. Metallic highlights are painted along the handle and around the top-piece (unfortunately, difficult to catch with my camera). Two strands of wire hold an assortment of wooden and bamboo pieces and beads which make the sound when shaken.

Measuring 19” long and 8” wide, this sistrum is perfect for most adults. Please don’t hesitate to ask questions or request more photos (I have them). To hear this rattle, click on this highlighted video link.
